Vintage Clothing are clothes that comes from yesterday, some maybe just a decade old but some clothes can be considered century old. And with the age of the clothes it is not surprising that it is very delicate. Caring for your vintage clothing should be done properly to prevent any damage. When it comes to washing, hand washing is the best option.
Here are some simple but very practical tips on how you should hand wash your vintage clothing:
- Separate colored clothes from white or lighter clothes. Some colored clothes will bleed and you do not want your vintage camisole to have a red stain on it. To test if a certain clothe will bleed when washed, soak a small part of the clothe and squeeze it, check the water that comes out if it has some color.
- Use cold water for cotton and warm for synthetics. Fill a basin with water then pour a mild detergent, mix well or until the detergent is already dissolved.
- Soak the clothes in the basin and gently wash the clothes, leave it there for about 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, rinse the clothe, rinse for about 2-3 times or until the water is clean.
- Do not dry your vintage clothing, instead place it in a towel and roll it then press while the clothe is inside. Hang it dry.
Storing your vintage clothing is almost the same as washing it, always separate the colored clothes from the white. Store it in coll dry place.
